I’m glad I didn’t spend money on this. Other reviews have already pointed out the lack of EXIF data on JPEG files. I’ll point out another major gap: PSD support. Can you really claim to support PSDs natively when you can’t handle layers, and the only thing that shows from a large PSD is a single embedded image? If this improves, I’ll be happy to update my review. For now, though, I’m still looking for a decent PSD viewer that understands layers.
No support for plt (hpgl).
Most swf games work in this program but, the frame isnt wide enough to show the whole entire game and there is no option for full screen. Please fix this
Wont save in other usable formats. Used Photoshop to convert .png to .jpeg
Repeatedly crashes when trying to open an swf file, which is why I downloaded it in the first place. Starts to open file then crashes.
It opened the files you can not usually use. even exec. files!
If the file type that you’re trying to view is supported it works great. Sadly it doesn’t report much information on MP3 or other audio files. The text view is pretty cool though. Definitely worth a look!
I find it really aggrivating because I got this app so I could edit a file, but it wont let me edit it.
I was unable to open files on icloud mail that have extetiion:part after my Maverick upgrade. Thanks to file viewer I am able to view all. I would like a fix for printing- now I have to copy and paste to a Word document to print.
Trying to see an old .cvx file. It opens it, but the image is tiny. It won’t zoom, and it won’t let me copy or save the image.
I downloaded it to view a DOCX file (Microsoft Word). You might as well use the Preview application that comes with your Mac, it looks just as bad.
I don’t think this application solves my niche problem any better than stuff I already have (Graphic Converter and iDraw). Although the application claims support for old file types like .PICT, I’m not having much luck with them. My files are from .pict files exported from Claris CAD and such. Maybe they’ve lost their resource fork or something. Maybe you have to tag an extension onto them or maybe it’s just not possible to read the old .PICT files when they have vector information in them. Most are called a Unix executable file by the current Finder and that’s what this app calls them but they don’t get displayed. I’ve been looking for this for a long time with no luck.
I was using this to see verify that my video files with iTunes are optimized for streaming (show the MOOV atom at the beginning of the file). Anything larger than a few hundred MB takes forever to load in the app. Most of my videos are around 8GB, so this app wasn’t very useful for this.
Does not open Microsoft .snp files on Mac. Useless for that application. Would be helpful to see the list of file type it can handle - before downloading and installing. Now just another MB waster on my hard drive.
Dear Creator, This app is very usefull but i downloaded it for one thing only. To open and edit. I really want to edit something but i cant. Is there a way you can write some coding to make text edit work??? Thanks, -Customer
The FileViewer.app ver. 1.4 is fairly worthless for Microsoft .asp (active server page) file documents. These .asp files get downloaded from various state and local government websites which expect you to be using a Windows machine. When used to view an .asp file on an iMac 27” running Yosemite 10.10.3 OSX, the FileViewer.app will only show the first page of the document - there is no way to advance or go to the next page in the document. There is also no way to copy what you view on that first page, other than using [Command][Shift][4] to grab a .png of the FIRST PAGE ONLY. Neither Firefox 38.0.5 nor Safari 8.0.6 browsers can open or view an .asp file in my iMac. Looks like I’ll have to pull out my old Windows XP Pro laptop to read .asp files. Due to its limitations, FileViewer.app should be renamed FirstPageViewOnly.app ‘cause that’s all it does.
It’s very difficult to coorelate the HEX and ASCII when viewing. It would be nice to move the mouse over an ASCII character and see the cooresponding HEX be highlighted. Or, it would be nice if the ASCII was clustered into 4 character groups to match with the 8 HEX groups. As a result, you spend a lot of time counting characters into the displayed field to match them up.
The application opens .sfw and .pwp files, correctly recognizing them as Seattle Film Works image files, but does not actually display any images. Not useful if that’s what you’re looking for.
I’ve been recording exif data from my photos in a database. This free program worked really well!
