File Viewer App Reviews
Lotus Word Pro (.lwp) files
Nice, simple, but it will not open a .lwp (lotus word pro) file. So, for my limited application, the program fails. It was worth a try!
This app is useless if you want to view a file type other than those listed in the description. I could look at Word docs and Pages files, but not any sort of spreadsheet. Its very good at telling you what app you need to open the file, but for most files, you will not get a real preview of the contents. All you get is the icon, and text/hex gibberish. I would not recommend this to anyone who wants to view files without downloading another app.
Exif View
Did exactly what it was supposed to do for me with the Exif view of a picture.
Terrible.
Allows you to open up files like promised. But will not allow you to edit them. I dont see a point in opening a file if you dont want to edit it.
This is a great and fast file viewer. It allows me to quickly check meta data of photos and PNG files. The layout is clean and easy to read. For those complaining that this is not an editor… um.. the name says VIEWER, and it is FREE. What is there to complain about?
Nice way to view JS and HTML files
But there is no search capabilities once you view the text.
Looks useful
This does look very useful, but unfortunately didnt do what I wanted.
Great
Very useful hexadecimal view.
does not support docx (word) documents with graphics
Openoffice is better, it at least displays text even if it doesnt display all graphics. This program displays a blank window
I was stuck with a series of text documents created in 1994 using Ami Pro, a now extinct word processing program (.sam file extension). File Viewer recognized and opened these files allowing me complete access to the content I needed. Very impressive.
Config
I needed this to edit a MC mod config file, so I open it but then I cant edit it, this is useless!
Great app. I need to open swf file and it did in a second!
without any problems or difficulties it opened all files I couldnt open before. Very good for students who is studying online
Ive recently had to open some text .dat files that were sent to me. Which I have no idea how they got to that format, but FileViewer was able to open them. I knocked off one star becuase the app, while I was able to view the document wouldnt let me print (or save as PDF).
Didnt Work
didnt work for me. I was trying to read a Unix Executable File. Didnt read it.
Easy
Worked great for me, I needed to watch a .swf file. It was easy to use. It did quit unexpectantly though.
No use!
I downloaded this to try to edit .cfg files. It surely opens the files, but it doesnt allow me to edit them!
.emb & .dst not supported
It didnt allow me to view either of the file types above. Ill try it on the next file I cant open just to see it work on something...
File Viewer doesnt work for me. I need to be able to print .doc files that my daughters teacher emails out. File Viewer doesnt display the .doc files correctly (the embedded images are not displayed) and there is no Print command.
This app is a little gem... drop it into the Dock and you have a handy option for viewing files Preview will not. A word to all you complainers who bellyache about not being able to edit a file: ITS A VIEWER KNUCKLEHEADS... as in FILE VIEWER! Duh! The only annoying faults that are readily apparent after using it for a couple days is that PREFERENCES is GREYED-OUT; Id prefer setting DEFAULT VIEW to IMAGE ONLY and viewing the file Info only when I need it. Also, the INFO button toggles the side bar out but it does NOT toggle it back in... so, it would seem, if you have to Command-i to toggle it back in, you should have to use Command-i to toggle it out to view Info. Hence, 4 Stars. Im running OS X 10.6.8 (still!) so it may behave as expected on OS X 10.7 or above. Thanks much for this convenient tool.
OK
Needs to show all keywords in exif info. Other than that its alright, I guess.
